My first try at engraving on a ring. 8mm sterling half round band. Many thanks to Sam--I watched his Jewelry Engraving DVD before I started on this and it sure helped me out. Now it's back to working on bits and spurs where I belong.

This is very clean work in silver! I hope you enjoyed doing that. Very good picture as well, nicely sharp and bright; lots of detail to see, thanks.

Great work! And an terrific job on the photo also. I did a ring (first one) a couple of months ago and completly forgot to take pics before it went out the door. It wasn't near as nice as yours.

Stewart,

I was very much looking forward to checking this out and the only thing I'm disappointed in is that you don't think its super fantastic!
I love it, its way better than what I can do for sure....
A job very well done and great gift!

My, that came out purdy! :thumbs up:

What did you use to hold it? At the lettering class I took last week we were checking out GRS's new ring holder. It's a vast improvement over their original one (which I have).

Not quite as nice as the RingGenie (which I also have) in terms of being able to do layout work and such but it is a lot more portable so I got one for my portable setup.

One advantage of the new one is that you can rotate it to the side and use it for engraving the side of the ring as well.

Thanks everyone. I sure appreciate the kind words.
Eastslope, I would have liked to see your ring. Your engraving is always incredible.
Steve, I used a GRS ring holder but I don't what version it is. It is the same one Sam used in his Jewelry Engraving DVD and I set it up just like he did in the video. Sure worked good.

Thanks Arnaud. This is just modified bright cut engraving. I shaded it with a 12-16 liner and crossed the tops with a 24-10.

That's the original GRS ring holder.

With the new one you don't need to do the work around. It has a nice little knob so you can set the drag / loosen it to rotate quite easily. It also has a cone that locks the ring so it can't rotate for when you're working on just one spot.

Thanks Shane and Doc.
Shane, I very seldom do jewelry but this was for a very good friend. I couldn't say no. And once I got going on the ring I enjoyed it. Nice diversion from what I normally do.

Hey Steve, Do you know when that will be available? I don't see it on the GRS site yet.

Sorry for hijacking the thread:eek:!

Stewart;
That ring is really great. If you do 5 or 6 of those a month you may be able to keep calling your self a bit and spur maker!!! How was OKC and the TCA show? Keep up the good work.
