After pretty much a year off, and a really rough year towards the end - I am back working and teaching fulltime.

Haven't quite finished the 2010 schedule - but one of the Basic Hand Engraving workshops is coming up really quick, Feb. 13 - 15th - so I'm posting this now. The rest will be announced in the next day or so and hopefully up on the websites by Tuesday.

2010 - New series of 3 DAY INTENSIVE WORKSHOPS at SJAS.

The world we live in has changed quite a bit in the past couple of years…So we have redesigned most of the workshops to fit the current economy.

Two days shorter, much more intensive, and priced at $500. Five of the weekend workshops incorporate national holidays in order to make them even more convenient for those who have inflexible work schedules. (Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day.)

Basic Hand Engraving:
3 Days - $500 + graver blanks & materials. All other tools furnished.

• Bench set-up, tools, and equipment
• Sharpening tool blanks
• Making basic cuts
• Combining the basic cuts to form leaves, flowers, lettering & geometric designs
• Transferring and cutting common patterns

Workshop includes comprehensive notes
8 hours of instruction daily & 3 hours of optional after hours studio time to practice
Graver blanks and practice materials available

8:00am – 5:00pm, 1 hour lunch, 6:00pm – 9:00pm after hours practice.

Dates: Feb. 13 – 15, May 29 – 31, Sept. 4 – 6, Oct. 9 -11, Nov. 25 – 27

$200 Deposit. Minimum of 3 participants – maximum of 6

Open Studios Workshop:
3 Days - $500 + graver blanks & materials. All other tools furnished.

This is an opportunity to learn ANY single new technique at intermediate level, or “tune-up” techniques you haven’t quite mastered. Open to anyone who has been through a basic workshop. You get to choose what to learn.

8 hours of instruction daily & 3 hours of after hours studio time to practice
Graver blanks and practice materials available

8:00am – 5:00pm, 1 hour lunch, then 6:00pm – 9:00pm optional after hours practice.

$200 Deposit. Minimum of 3 participants – maximum of 6
Dates: Mar. 5 - 7, April 9 – 11, July 9 - 11

There are more to come...

Brian,
Two questions:
1. How far is it from Fairfield to your studio; ie, is a daily commute feasible?
2. Are last minute registrations possible?

I would be interested in attending your basic class on 2/13-15 BUT it would be a last minute deal. I have a project to finish and deliver but don't know if it will be finished by then. As soon as it is done, I will be leaving the next day to drive to Fairfield for a month's visit.

As has been suggested here before, I really need to attend a basic course to overcome some of my self taught handicaps and yours seems tailor made to that end.

Hi Dave,

Fairfield is around 50 miles from here - but Hwy 12 is what it is - so I would guess a little over an hour, maybe an hour and 15 minutes max?

Last minute would be fine with me. Even if we fill the workshop with 6 students, which is the normal maximum - there are 12 positons here...

Thanks,
I hope I can work it out as it would be the ideal situation to avoid travel expenses, room & board and car rental fees since I will already be there. Will contact you if things look more promising as time progresses.
