I use an HB pencil on its own layer to sketch out the basic backbone flow. Then I go back and refine it on a separate layer and clear the sketch. Finally I go back with a technical pen on another layer and ink it all in. Same for leaves and shading. Is this being too detailed? I'm new so I spend more time drawing with the eraser than with the pencil.
How do you get the lines so smooth? No matter how many times I go over things the edges are bumpy. I look at the work done by the artists in the family and it looks like they are machine done. Mine look like a mile of bad road.
I do love Procreate though. Now if I could draw something that doesn't look like it's been done by a 3 year old with a crayon....
